General Information
As the first and only Faculty of Foreign Languages in Turkey under Social Sciences University of Ankara founded in 2013, our goal is to carry out extensive research into world literatures and cultures. The reason for establishing an independent faculty, not under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, is to draw due attention to the significance of this field and to conduct more quality, original and beneficial educational research. We believe it is not an option but a priority to keep abreast of the revolutionary and rapid global changes. Today an incident happening even in a remote place might have a far-reaching impact on our country. Inspired by these ideas, our Faculty aims to train individuals who have superior levels of language and critical thinking skills. These skills can help our students read about and understand these cultures via the literature and cultural products. English Language and Literature, the first department of our Faculty, is one of the first distinctive and innovative programs in this field with its content and points of view. Our Faculty has taken this as its essential mission: To be universal without having to abandon its national and local values, and to learn, teach and research the culture and literature of other countries at international standards. The research area of the Faculty of Foreign Languages covers a wide geography, from Arabic Language and Literature to Japanese Language and Literature, from Russia to Spain. The ASBU Faculty of Foreign Languages is the first independent Faculty of Foreign Languages in Turkey. Normally foreign languages and literature studies are under other faculties, but at ASBU it has an independent and a unique structure due to the privilege of being in a social sciences university. English Language and Literature, the first department of our Faculty to admit students, is the first in Turkey in terms of both its program and its vision.
